What’s Next? Navigating the Complexities of ChemTech Scale-Up

With SpinUp partner RXN HUB and speaker Morgan Lehtinen.

Webinar Description: Join Morgan Lehtinen as she unpacks the nuances of commercializing chemical technologies beyond the lab scale, discussing its unique aspects, and how it markedly differs from other sectors.

Bringing a new chemical technology to market is no walk in the park, with numerous barriers including complex infrastructure requirements, high costs and long development timelines. RXN HUB, built in partnership with Canada’s innovation ecosystem, was designed as a solution to these challenges, by ensuring ventures have access to the resources, relationships, capital, and infrastructure they need to bring their innovations to market—all in one place.  In this workshop, you will learn “what comes next” as you plan your scale up strategy beyond the lab, up the technology readiness levels (TRLs) and on your way to commercial deployment.

Though this session is focused on chemical technology scale up, many of the learnings will also be useful for those scaling other deep technologies including life sciences.

* Please note this webinar series is open to members of the University of Toronto, University of Toronto Entrepreneurship (UTE), IDEA Mississauga and Ontario Genomics BioCreate communities only.

Meet the Speaker

Morgan Lehtinen, PhD is an accomplished researcher, ecosystem builder, educator and innovation consultant with 10+ years mobilizing chemical technologies in university and entrepreneurial ecosystems. She began her career by founding a cleantech start-up to commercialize a water filtration technology developed over the course of her PhD in polymer and materials science at Queen’s University. Following a tumultuous go-to-market journey, she shifted her career to supporting founders like her by focusing on mobilizing scale-up resources and collaboratively building the infrastructure required to enable innovation ecosystems which she shared in her TEDx Talk titled “Innovating the Very Idea of Innovation”. Now, in her role as Executive Director of the RXN HUB, she leads the deployment of a 220,000 sq.ft., first-of-a-kind facility that provides home for scaling cleantech ventures to pilot, demonstrate and manufacture their chemical technologies in service of a cleaner tomorrow.  The impact of her work has been recognized through a variety of awards including Corporate Knights Top 30 Under 30 Sustainability Leaders and Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award Winners.
